How BitLance Works
An end-to-end guide on creating profiles, funding smart escrows, and receiving automated Lightning payments.
Welcome to BitLance, the premier borderless marketplace connecting world-class talent with businesses seeking remote work paid in Bitcoin. Whether you are a business looking to hire top talent or a freelancer ready to earn hard currency, understanding our end-to-end milestone escrow flow is the key to a successful partnership.
Step 1: Sign Up in Seconds (No KYC)
Getting started is quick and frictionless. We require no invasive KYC processes. Simply sign up with your name and email address, specify your user role (Freelancer or Client), and complete your profile.
- Freelancers: Define your hourly rate in sats, list your technical skills, showcase your portfolio, and input your Lightning payout address under Settings.
- Clients: Complete your profile with company details and billing email, ready to source vetted talent.
Step 2: Post Jobs and Submit Proposals
The contract process begins on our open job board:
Clients create detailed listings under Job Posts, setting a budget denominated in Satoshis (sats). Freelancers browse the Job Feed, filter opportunities by category, and submit structured proposals specifying milestones and bidding price.
Step 3: Contract Creation & Milestone Escrow
When a client accepts a proposal, a dedicated contract and chat conversation are initiated. Work is organized into clear milestones to ensure iterative progress and security.
To secure the freelancer's time, the client funds the escrow for the first milestone (or full contract upfront) by paying a Lightning invoice generated directly in the Messages section.
"The milestone escrow keeps both parties safe. Freelancers know their compensation is locked in before starting, and clients hold the release keys until verified work is delivered."
Step 4: Deliver and Release Payouts
- The freelancer delivers completed files, repositories, or links under the active milestone in Contracts.
- The client is notified and reviews the submission. They can request revisions or approve the deliverable.
- Upon verification, the client clicks Approve and Pay.
- The escrow instantly releases, automatically routing the agreed sats directly to the freelancer's Lightning wallet (specified in Settings).
Frequently Asked Questions
Where does the 5% platform fee come from?
The client pays a flat 5% fee on top of the contract budget. The freelancer is paid 100% of their negotiated project price, with zero platform cuts deducted from their payout.
What happens if a dispute occurs?
If an agreement cannot be reached, either side can choose 'Raise Dispute' from the chat's three-dot menu in Messages. A neutral admin will review the deliverables and mediate a fair resolution.
